A very close game took place in Poitiers between Poitiers and Charleville-Mezieres. Twelfth ranked Poitiers (9-11) got a very close home victory over 13th ranked Charleville-Mezieres (7-13). Poitiers managed to escape with a 3-point win 98-95 on Friday evening. Charleville-Mezieres cut a 13-point halftime deficit to three at the end of the game. Strangely Charleville-Mezieres outrebounded Poitiers 35-23 including a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 71.4 percentage. Poitiers looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American-Dominican Jeff Greer (196-79, college: Rutgers) who scored 29 points and 7 assists. Point guard Carl Ona-Embo (185-89) chipped in 20 points and 6 assists. Ona-Embo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American-British point guard Akeem Williams (178-91, college: Mass.-Lowell, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) produced 21 points and 5 assists and Ukrainian center Yaroslav Lemyk (205-85) added 19 points respectively for the guests. Five Charleville-Mezieres players scored in double figures. Poitiers moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with St Quentin. Charleville-Mezieres lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Lille. Poitiers will meet higher ranked Orchesien BC (#8) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Charleville-Mezieres will play against Souffelweyersheim (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
