Regular Season Round 31: Toyota Alvark - Aishin SH 84-89

NBL top team - Aishin Sea Horses (27-3) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Toyota Alvark (17-14) in Tokyo 89-84. Aishin Sea Horses made 21-of-23 charity shots (91.3 percent) during the game, while Toyota Alvark only scored five points from the stripe. Strangely Toyota Alvark outrebounded Aishin Sea Horses 41-29 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Aishin Sea Horses especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. International swingman Kosuke Kanamaru (193-89) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Four Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: Florida St., agency: Comsport) added 18 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Toyota Alvark. Toyota Alvark's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Aishin Sea Horses have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 27-3 record. Toyota Alvark at the other side keeps the fifth position with 14 games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will have a break next round. Toyota Alvark will play again at home against the league's leader Aishin Sea Horses (#1) and hope to win that game.
