Regular Season Round 40: Gigantes - Fuerza Regia 88-71

We should mention about the upset which took place in Toluca, where higher ranked Fuerza Regia (19-17) lost to tenth ranked Gigantes (15-22) in a road game 71-88. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Gigantes's pressure prevailed and they won that period 31-19 extending their advantage to 17 points. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward John Millsap (198-82, college: UTSA, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 31 points and 11 rebounds. Swingman Tim Pickett (192-81, college: Florida St., agency: Interperformances) contributed with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Millsap is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Michael Hunter (178, college: Cal-Irvine) added 20 points in the effort for Fuerza Regia. Gigantes maintains tenth position with 15-22 record. Fuerza Regia at the other side keeps the fifth place with 17 games lost. Gigantes will play against Correcaminos (#12) in Ciudad Victoria in the next round. Fuerza Regia will play at home against Soles (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
