Regular Season Round 14: Ensino - Arxil Pontev. 79-78

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Maquinaria Ensino as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group A. Maquinaria Ensino edged one of their biggest challengers Arxil Pontevedra in Lugo 79-78. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Arxil Pontevedra. It was a key game for the top position in Group A. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-15. But Arxil Pontevedra won second period 23-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American center Kendra Suttles (185-91, college: Oklahoma St.) saved the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Gema Garcia (165-85) contributed with 14 points and 7 assists for the winners. Senegalese center Maimouna Diarra (198-91) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Maria Gonzalez (178-93) added 13 points in the effort for Arxil Pontevedra. Five Maquinaria Ensino and four Arxil Pontevedra players scored in double figures. Maquinaria Ensino have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Arxil Pontevedra at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with GDKO Bizkaia. Arxil Pontevedra will play next round against Aros Leon trying to get back on the winning streak. Maquinaria Ensino will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked ADBA at Aviles.
