Regular Season Round 19: Wildcats - Breakers 87-89 OT

Perth Wildcats (#3) forced the game against New Zealand Breakers (#2) into an overtime, but lost by two points 87-89 on Sunday night. The game took place in Perth. But the guests from Auckland were better at the end. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Perth Wildcats. Perth Wildcats were trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 20-13 charge of New Zealand Breakers, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 21-19. New Zealand Breakers forced 20 Perth Wildcats turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when New Zealand Breakers made 9 blocks. Perth Wildcats were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (made all of his seven free throws). New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth, agency: Beo Basket) helped adding 27 points. At the losing side American forward DeAndre Daniels (206-92, college: Connecticut) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) scored 24 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. New Zealand Breakers maintains second place with 19-8 record behind leader Taipans. Defending champion Perth Wildcats keep the third position with 11 games lost. New Zealand Breakers will face league's leader Cairns Taipans at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Perth Wildcats will play against Townsville Crocodiles and hope to win that game.
