A1 round 17 caused change at the leadership position. Second defeat of league's leader Panathinaikos (16-2) against second ranked AE Ellinikou (17-1) 79-61 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Panathinaikos. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. AE Ellinikou led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Panathinaikos' 22. AE Ellinikou forced 20 Panathinaikos turnovers. The former international guard Tania Chalivera (178-85) contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. American power forward Monique Oliver (188-91, college: Rutgers) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 19 rebounds and forward Maria Avtzi (172-90) added 12 points in the effort for Panathinaikos. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. AE Ellinikou have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Panathinaikos at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by AE Ellinikou. Panathinaikos will play next round against Terpsithea trying to make it back to the top of the standings. AE Ellinikou will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Athinaikos in Athens.
