Regular Season Round 18: Haukar - KR 87-84

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked KR (16-2) in Hafnarfjordur on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by fifth ranked Haukar (10-8) 87-84. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of KR. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But KR won third quarter 26-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to KR's 22. They outrebounded KR 46-30 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Haukar looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by KR helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Alex Francis (198-91, college: Bryant, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Kristinn Marinosson (191-91) chipped in 20 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Brynjar Bjornsson (188-88, college: Francis Marion) with 29 points and 4 assists and the former international guard Pavel Ermolinskij (202-87) scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Five KR players scored in double figures. Haukar have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 10-8 record. Defending champion KR still keeps top place with two games lost. Haukar are looking forward to face higher ranked Njardvik (#4) in Njardvik in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. KR will play at home against Skallagrimur and is hoping to win this game.
