Regular Season Round 16: Hottur - Valur 82-95

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Hottur (15-3) in Egilsstadir on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Valur (8-7) 95-82. It ended at the same time the 11-game winning streak of Hottur. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 59-43 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Valur dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Hottur's 38. They outrebounded Hottur 43-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. Valur looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Illugi Audunsson (196-92) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Leifur Arnason (193-80) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Five Valur players scored in double figures. American guard Tobin Carberry (193-91, college: LIU Post) replied with a triple-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and swingman Vidar Orn Hafsteinsson (190-85) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Hottur. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Valur maintains fifth position with 8-7 record. Hottur at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
