Regular Season Round 37: Shimane SM - Okinawa GK 77-71

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Okinawa GK (29-6) on the court of seventh ranked Shimane Magic on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Shimane Magic 77-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Okinawa GK. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-12. But Okinawa GK won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Shimane Magic forced 19 Okinawa GK turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Shimane Magic especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Americans were the main players on the court. Swingman Wesley Witherspoon (205-90, college: Memphis) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and forward Bingo Merriex (206-80, college: TCU) chipped in 8 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side Anthony McHenry (202-83, college: Georgia Tech) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and guard Draelon Burns (194-85, college: De Paul) scored 11 points and 4 assists. Four Okinawa GK players scored in double figures. Okinawa GK's coach Tsutomu Isa rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Shimane Magic maintains seventh place with 12-23 record, which they share with Fukushima. Okinawa GK at the other side still keeps top position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Shimane Magic is again looking forward to face league's leader Okinawa GK at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Okinawa GK will have a break next round.
