Regular Season Round 37: Aomori Watts - Fukushima 83-78

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Fukushima (12-23) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Aomori Watts (18-17) 83-78 on Saturday. Aomori Watts made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Aomori Watts outrebounded Fukushima 46-34 including 33 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Aomori Watts made 7 blocks. American power forward Paul Williams (208-83, college: St.Bonaventure, agency: I.D.S. Law) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Guyanese-American forward Gordon Klaiber (206-83, college: Fair Dickinson) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. Four Aomori Watts players scored in double figures. Aomori Watts' coach Koshirashi Munakata used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Terrance Shannon (203-90, college: VCU) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana) scored 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Aomori Watts maintains sixth place with 18-17 record. Newly promoted Fukushima dropped to the seventh position with 23 games lost. Aomori Watts will face again Fukushima (#9) at home in the next round.
