Regular Season Round 5: Toros - Cocodrilos 89-99

Everything went according to plan in Maracay where leader Cocodrilos (4-0) beat bottom-ranked Toros (0-4) 99-89 on Saturday. Cocodrilos made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Cocodrilos outrebounded Toros 36-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. Toros were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Walter Sharpe (206-86, college: UAB) stepped up and scored 25 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and swingman Cesar Garcia (175-89) chipped in 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Cocodrilos' coach Nestor Salazar used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international center Alejandro Barrios (204-79) responded with 19 points and American power forward Anthony Laveal Johnson (203-88, college: Fairfield) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Toros players scored in double figures. Cocodrilos have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record. Loser Toros still closes the standings with four games lost. Cocodrilos will face Guaiqueries (#3) in Porlamar in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
