Regular Season Round 35: Handlova - Karlovka 87-73

Rather expected game when 6th ranked Karlovka (14-21) lost on the road to fourth ranked Handlova (19-16) 87-73 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-73. Handlova outrebounded Karlovka 38-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Karlovka's players. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Ondrej Soska (208-78) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. Croatian swingman Luka Drezga (196-87, agency: XL Basketball Agency) accounted for 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Lukaas Hoferica came up with 19 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Miroslav Zilik (197-89) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Karlovka in the defeat. Four Karlovka players scored in double figures. Karlovka's coach Milan Cernicky rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Handlova maintains fourth place with 19-16 record. Newly promoted Karlovka dropped to the seventh position with 21 games lost. Handlova will meet bottom-ranked Nitra (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Karlovka will play against Inter Bratislava and hope to secure a win.
