Date: February 24, 2015
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Cocodrilos (4-1) in Caracas on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by Guaiqueries (4-1) 81-72. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Cocodrilos. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-72. Guaiqueries outrebounded Cocodrilos 46-34 including 31 on the defensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Cocodrilos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international center Richard Lugo (209-73, college: St.Francis, NY) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. American center Dwayne Jones (211-83, college: St.Joseph's) chipped in 7 points and 15 rebounds. Four Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Carl Elliott (193-83, college: G.Washington) who recorded 20 points and his fellow American import power forward Kristoffer Lang (211-79, college: N.Carolina) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Cocodrilos' coach Nestor Salazar rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Guaiqueries have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Cocodrilos and Marinos. Guaiqueries will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cocodrilos will play again at home against the league's leader Guaiqueries and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
