Regular Season Round 7: Cocodrilos - Guaiqueries 88-79

LPB round 7 caused change at the leadership position. Second defeat of league's leader Guaiqueries (4-2) against third ranked Cocodrilos (5-1) 88-79 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Guaiqueries. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Guaiqueries trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 23-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 79-88 at the end of the game. Cocodrilos dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Guaiqueries' 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Carl Elliott (193-83, college: G.Washington) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Forward Yochuar Palacios (196-85) contributed with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. Cocodrilos' coach Nestor Salazar used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91) answered with 31 points and American center Dwayne Jones (211-83, college: St.Joseph's) added 11 points and 18 rebounds in the effort for Guaiqueries. Cocodrilos keep a position of league leader, which they share with Marinos. Guaiqueries at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Guaros and Bucaneros. They were replaced at the leadership position by Cocodrilos. Guaiqueries will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Cocodrilos will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Guaros in Barquisimeto.
