Regular Season Round 26: Pinar del Rio - Las Tunas 67-59

The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixth ranked Pinar del Rio's (10-16) home victory over 7th ranked Las Tunas (5-20) 67-59 on Wednesday. Las Tunas trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 12 after three quarters before a 20-16 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 59-67 at the end of the game. Pinar del Rio forced 26 Las Tunas turnovers and outrebounded them 33-21 including 22 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Hector Martinto (197-94) notched 14 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) supported him with 6 points and 10 assists. Pinar del Rio's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 9 points and 11 rebounds by swingman Yosniel Morales (196-87) did not help to save the game for Las Tunas. Guard Yadiel Mena (170-89) added 10 points, 7 assists and 5 steals for the guests. Pinar del Rio moved-up to fifth place. Las Tunas at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the seventh position with 20 games lost. Pinar del Rio will meet at home Camaguey (#6) in the next round. Las Tunas will play against Ciego de Avila and hope to secure a win.
