Regular Season Round 39: Gunma - Saitama Bron. 75-61

Date: February 26, 2015
Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Saitama Broncos (4-32) lost on the road to eighth ranked Gunma (15-21) 75-61 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Gunma. Saitama Broncos was better in third quarter 26-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Saitama Broncos to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Saitama Broncos 48-35 including 35 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American forward Melvin Ely (208-78, college: Fresno St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Carlos Dixon (201-81, college: Virginia Tech) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Gunma players scored in double figures. Gunma's coach Charlie Parker used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vincentian power forward Nyika Williams (203-87, college: Pacific) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 19 rebounds and American forward Gary Johnson (198-91, college: Albany) added 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Saitama Broncos. Gunma have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain eighth place with 15-21 record. Saitama Broncos lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 32 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
