Regular Season Round 20: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel Eilat 74-87

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Maccabi Haifa (8-13) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Hapoel Eilat (10-10) 87-74 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 44-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Hapoel Eilat dominated on the defensive end, holding Maccabi Haifa to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Maccabi Haifa 40-26 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hapoel Eilat looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American Kevin Palmer (198-87, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Comsport) who scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). The former international point guard Afik Nissim (185-81, agency: Avi Zilberman) chipped in 17 points and 8 assists. Four Hapoel Eilat players scored in double figures. Naturalized Danish guard Chanan Colman (191-84, college: Chipola JC) produced 17 points and 6 assists and American-Nigerian Ike Ofoegbu (205-84, college: SMU) added 21 points respectively for the hosts. Maccabi Haifa's coach Rami Hadar tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hapoel Eilat moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Ironi Nes-Ziona. Maccabi Haifa lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 13 games lost. Hapoel Eilat will face Ironi Nahariya (#8) on the road in the next round.
