Regular Season Round 27: Artemisa - Santiago 94-86

The game between second ranked Santiago (18-9) and fourth ranked Artemisa (16-10) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Santiago was defeated by Artemisa in a tough game on the road 86-94. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 34-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Santiago outrebounded Artemisa 44-24 including a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Osmel Oliva (178-87) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points, 6 assists and 4 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Swingman Joice Daudinot (194-85) helped adding 22 points. Artemisa's coach Raudel Balaguer used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was international center Javier Justiz (205-92) with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Artemisa have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 16-10 record. Santiago lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with nine games lost. They share it with Ciego de Avila. Artemisa are again looking forward to face league's second-placed Santiago in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santiago will have a break next round.
