The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Camaguey's (9-18) road loss to fifth ranked Pinar del Rio (11-16) 54-68 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Pinar del Rio. Camaguey managed to win second period 9-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pinar del Rio forced 20 Camaguey turnovers and outrebounded them 35-13 including a 24-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) who scored 19 points, 9 assists and 7 steals. Forward Yanderlei Suarez (193-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Four Pinar del Rio players scored in double figures. Pinar del Rio's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Yoanny Baldo (191-89) who recorded 17 points and 6 steals and guard Angel Ibanes (190-90) added 17 points respectively. The victory was the third consecutive win for Pinar del Rio. Newly promoted Pinar del Rio maintains fifth place with 11-16 record. Camaguey lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the sixth position with 18 games lost. Pinar del Rio will again meet at home Camaguey (#6) in the next round. Camaguey will have a break next round.
