Regular Season Round 8: Gigantes - Panteras 85-78

Date: February 28, 2015
Bottom-ranked Panteras (0-7) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their seventh consecutive match to seventh ranked Gigantes (4-3) 85-78. Panteras were ahead by 13 points at the halftime before a 52-32 second half run of Gigantes. They made 17-of-19 charity shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Panteras turnovers. Strangely Panteras outrebounded Gigantes 34-20 including 26 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American Anthony Young (200-89, college: Ky Wesleyan) who scored that evening 19 points and 4 assists and the former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) supported him with 9 points and 12 rebounds. Even 28 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by American point guard R.L. Horton (182-89, college: S.Mississippi) did not help to save the game for Panteras. His fellow American import power forward Justin Williams (206-84, college: Wyoming) added 16 points, 11 rebounds and 8 blocks for the guests. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gigantes moved-up to sixth place. Panteras at the other side still closes the standings with seven games lost. They share the position with Gaiteros. Gigantes will again play against bottom-ranked Panteras (#10) in Caracas in the next round. Panteras will have a break next round.
