Regular Season Round 39: Shinshu BW - Akita NH 100-94 OT

BJ League round 39 caused change at the leadership position. Eighth defeat of league's leader Akita Happinets (29-8) against eighth ranked Shinshu BW (15-20) 100-94 in overtime was the most important game of the last round. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 24-15 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 18-12. Shinshu BW looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Akita Happinets helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Patrick Sanders (198-85, college: Cal-Irvine) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import forward DeVaughn Washington (202-89, college: Ohio) contributed with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American swingman Richard Roby (198-85) answered with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Hiroshi Otsuka (188-87) added 15 points in the effort for Akita Happinets. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Shinshu BW moved-up to seventh place. Akita Happinets at the other side dropped to the second position with eight games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Okinawa GK. Akita Happinets will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Shinshu BW will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Akita Happinets at home.
