Regular Season Round 19: Swords Thunder - UCD Marian 87-96

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Swords Thunder (12-4) against fifth ranked UCD Marian (8-9) on Saturday night. Host Swords Thunder was defeated by UCD Marian in a tough game in Dublin 87-96. Strangely Swords Thunder outrebounded UCD Marian 44-26 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a great evening for point guard Conor Meany (185-86) who led his team to a victory scoring 40 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Preston Ross (198, college: Winston Salem) helped adding 15 points, 6 assists and 4 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). At the losing side Spanish forward Juan Torres (196-92) responded with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 19 rebounds and the former international point guard Isaac Westbrooks (189-85) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. UCD Marian maintains fifth place with 8-9 record. Newly promoted Swords Thunder keeps the second position with four games lost. UCD Marian's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Dublin to the arena Dublin Inter.
