Regular Season Round 23: Oviedo - Valladolid 84-80

We should mention about the upset which took place in Oviedo, where higher ranked Blancos de Rueda (13-8) lost to eleventh ranked Oviedo CB (9-13) in a road game 80-84 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Blancos de Rueda. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-80. Oviedo CB dominated on the defensive end, holding Blancos de Rueda to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Blancos de Rueda 42-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for Alvaro Munoz (197-90, agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Naturalized Dominican power forward Juan Garcia (201-89, agency: Duran International) helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. Munoz is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. point guard Mikel Uriz (182-89) responded with 22 points and 5 assists and Javier Lucas (207-86) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Oviedo CB maintains eleventh place with 9-13 record. Loser Blancos de Rueda keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Forca Lleida. Oviedo CB will meet higher ranked Burgos (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blancos de Rueda will play against Planasa NV and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
