An interesting game where Salerno (#7) beat host Alghero (#6) 58-54 on Saturday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Alghero won third quarter 14-8. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Salerno won last quarter 17-15. Paraguayan swingman Tamara Insfran (175-89, college: Cumberland) stepped up and scored 14 points for the winners and guard Roberta Dentamaro (172-97) chipped in 7 points and 7 rebounds. Argentinian power forward Erica Sanchez (182-76) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Sara Azzellini (170-86) scored 15 points. Salerno (1-3) left bottom position moving up to fifth place in A2. Loser Alghero still closes the standings with four games lost. Salerno will meet higher ranked Milano (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alghero will play against Virtus Cagliari (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
