Regular Season Round 11: Marinos - Guaiqueries 85-78
Date: March 5, 2015
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Marinos (8-2) beat 6th ranked Guaiqueries (4-4) in Puerto La Cruz 85-78. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-10. But Guaiqueries won second period 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Marinos won last quarter 26-20. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Guaiqueries' players. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Paris Global Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists. American center Brian Williams (208-87, college: Tennessee) helped adding 18 points and 12 rebounds. American center Dwayne Jones (211-83, college: St.Joseph's) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Cameron Tatum (200-88, college: Tennessee) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Marinos. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Bucaneros. Guaiqueries lost their third game in a row. They keep the sixth place with four games lost. Marinos will again play against Guaiqueries (#6) in Porlamar in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Guaiqueries will have a break next round.
