Regular Season Round 20: Stjarnan - KR 100-103

Fourth-ranked Stjarnan (11-9) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked KR (18-2) on Thursday. The visitors from Reykjavik managed to secure only three-point victory 103-100. However their fans expected easier game. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 53-45 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. KR made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. KR outrebounded Stjarnan 43-29 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Michael Craion (195-89, college: ORU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 20 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international Helgi Magnusson (197-82, college: Catawba) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American forward Jeremy Atkinson (193-90, college: NC-Asheville) replied with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and guard Dagur Jonsson (186-95) added 28 points in the effort for Stjarnan. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains first position with 18-2 record. Stjarnan at the other side dropped to the fifth place with nine games lost. KR are looking forward to face Thor Thorl (#7) in Thorlakshofn in the next round where they are favorite. Stjarnan will play on the road against Njardvik in Njardvik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
