Regular Season Round 41: Niigata Albirex - Gunma 87-70

Date: March 7, 2015
Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked Gunma (15-22) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Niigata Albirex (25-14) 87-70 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-70. Niigata Albirex forced 20 Gunma turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The game was also dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) who scored 32 points and 8 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Forward Stephan Van Treese (206-90, college: Louisville, agency: Two Points) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Carlos Dixon (201-81, college: Virginia Tech) produced 27 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Daniel Northern (206-85, college: Tenn Tech, agency: R.H.Consultancy) added 11 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Niigata Albirex. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Sendai 89ers. Loser Gunma dropped to the eighth position with 22 games lost. Niigata Albirex will face again Gunma (#8) at home in the next round.
