Regular Season Round 23: Valencia - CAI Zaragoza 106-109

A very close game took place in Valencia between CAI Zaragoza and Valencia Basket. Seventh ranked CAI Zaragoza (13-10) got a very close victory on the road over 6th ranked Valencia Basket (13-10). CAI Zaragoza managed to escape with a 3-point win 109-106 in the game for the sixth place. Valencia Basket was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 37-30 charge of CAI Zaragoza, which allowed them to win the game. They shot 62.7 percent from the field and made 20-of-21 free shots (95.2 percent) during the game. CAI Zaragoza shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Serbian power forward Stevan Jelovac (208-89, agency: Beo Basket) who scored 24 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). American forward Jason Robinson (198-80, college: Pikeville) chipped in 18 points. CAI Zaragoza's coach Joaquin Ruiz used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international Pablo Aguilar (202-89) produced 29 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) and point guard Pau Ribas (196-87) added 20 points and 11 assists respectively for the hosts. Five CAI Zaragoza and four Valencia Basket players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for CAI Zaragoza. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Valencia. CAI Zaragoza will meet Asefa Estudiantes (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Valencia Basket will play against the league's leader Unicaja Malaga (#1) and hope to secure a win.
