Regular Season Round 38: Hiroshima D. - Chiba Jets 59-81

The most important game in the last round took place in Hiroshima between third ranked Dragonflies (15-22) and fifth ranked Chiba Jets (23-15) on Sunday night. Dragonflies unexpectedly were crushed by at home 59-81. The game was mostly controlled by Chiba Jets. Dragonflies managed to win second period 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Chiba Jets dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Dragonflies' 32. They outrebounded Dragonflies 41-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American power forward Rick Rickert (211-83, college: Minnesota) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. The other American import forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Chiba Jets players scored in double figures. Chiba Jets' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International power forward Kosuke Takeuchi (206-85) produced 17 points and 7 rebounds and guard Atsunobu Hirao (178-89) added 19 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Chiba Jets maintains fifth position with 23-15 record. Dragonflies lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the third place with 22 games lost. Chiba Jets are looking forward to face Wakayama T. (#5) at home in the next round. Dragonflies will play against Tsukuba R. and are hoping to win this game.
