Regular Season Round 38: Kumamoto V. - Toyota Alvark 76-105

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Kumamoto V. (4-33) was crushed at home by fourth ranked Toyota Alvark (24-14) 105-76 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota Alvark. Kumamoto V. was better in third quarter 32-29. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyota Alvark dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Kumamoto V.'s 46 and made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game, while Kumamoto V. only scored six points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). The former international forward Daiki Tanaka (191-91) chipped in 19 points. American swingman Garlon Green (201-91, college: TCU) produced 28 points and guard Shintaro Kobayashi (184-85) added 10 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Five Toyota Alvark and four Kumamoto V. players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Toyota Alvark have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 24-14 record. Kumamoto V. lost ninth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with 33 games lost. Toyota Alvark will face Hyogo S. (#4) at home in the next round. Kumamoto V. will play against the league's leader Hitachi Sunrockers in Tokyo and hope to win that game.
