Regular Season Round 17: Dist.Olimpico - Leganes 66-93

The biggest surprise of round 17 was guest Leganes' (12-5) easy road victory over 4th placed Dist.Olimpico (11-6) 93-66 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Dist.Olimpico. The guests trailed by 15 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 27 points. Leganes dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Dist.Olimpico's 34. Leganes forced 23 Dist.Olimpico turnovers. The best player for the winners was guard Marta Perez (172-89) who scored 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Lithuanian power forward Dovile Miliauskaite (187-89, college: Towson, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Four Leganes players scored in double figures. Center Daira Varas (193-89) produced 11 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Laura Velasco (173-90) added 10 points respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Leganes have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Dist.Olimpico at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Celta Selmark and Aros Leon. Leganes is looking forward to face C.Adelantados (#10) in San Cristobal in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Dist.Olimpico's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Madrid to the arena CREF Hola.
