Regular Season Round 42: Sendai 89ers - Fukushima 106-77

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Fukushima (12-28) was outleveled on the road by fourth ranked Sendai 89ers (26-14) 106-77 on Sunday. The game without a history. Sendai 89ers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Fukushima's 46. They outrebounded Fukushima 35-23 including a 30-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sendai 89ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Fukushima's players. It was a good game for American guard Kejuan Johnson (193-85, college: Long Beach St., agency: KMG Sports Management) who led his team to a victory with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. The other American import center Jeral Davis (216-84) contributed with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers' coach Shuto Kawachi felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Edward Morris (205-84, college: Pittsburg St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Masaya Karimata (178-88) added 21 points in the effort for Fukushima. Sendai 89ers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 26-14 record, which they share with Niigata Albirex. Fukushima lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with 28 games lost. Sendai 89ers will face Gunma (#8) on the road in the next round. Fukushima will play against Saitama Broncos and hope to win that game.
