Regular Season Round 14: Guaiqueries - Bucaneros 82-73

Round 14 in LPB means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Porlamar where host Guaiqueries (5-4) beat league's leader Bucaneros (8-3) 82-73 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Bucaneros. Bucaneros trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 24-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 73-82 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Bucaneros 47-26 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Tulio Cobos (197-86, college: Northeastern St.) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91) chipped in 18 points. Four Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. The former international guard Jesus Centeno (190-85) produced 19 points and the former international power forward Hector Romero (202-80, college: New Orleans) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Bucaneros' coach Luis Guil rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Guaiqueries moved-up to fifth place. Bucaneros at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. They share it with Cocodrilos. They were replaced at the leadership position by Marinos. Bucaneros will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Guaiqueries will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Bucaneros in La Guaira.
