Regular Season Round 15: Toros - Gaiteros 93-80

Bottom-ranked Gaiteros is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their 12th consecutive match to eighth ranked Toros (3-7) 93-80. It looked good early as Gaiteros took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Toros had a 26-16 second period charge getting the lead and Gaiteros were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-93. Toros dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Gaiteros' 28. Toros had a 26-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Dominican guard Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern CC) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) helped adding 21 points. Five Toros players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Ghanian guard Kojo Mensah (193-85, college: Buffalo St., agency: Interperformances) with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Nigerian-American power forward Reggie Okosa (208-80, college: La Salle) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Gaiteros' coach Carlos Mercado tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toros maintains eighth place with 3-7 record. Gaiteros at the other side still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Toros will play against Panteras (#9) in Caracas in the next round. Gaiteros will play at home against Guaiqueries and hope to get finally their first victory.
