Regular Season Round 20: Koroivos - Panionios 83-74

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Panionios (3-17) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Koroivos (7-13) 83-74 on Saturday. Panionios was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 25-15 charge of Koroivos, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Panionios was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Spanish center Guillem Rubio (202-82) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 9 rebounds and American point guard Timothy Bowers (188-82, college: Mississippi St.) who added 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Five Koroivos players scored in double figures. Koroivos' coach Haris Markopoulos used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American William Coleman (206-88, college: Memphis) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Vasilis Xanthopoulos (188-84, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 15 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. Koroivos moved-up to tenth place, which they share with KAOD and Nea Kifisia. Panionios lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Koroivos will face league's second-placed Panathinaikos in Athens in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Panionios will play on the road against Aris (#3) in Thessaloniki and hope to win that game.
