Regular Season Round 39: Tochigi Brex - Aishin SH 68-65

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Aishin Sea Horses (33-6) on the court of second ranked Tochigi Brex on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by Tochigi Brex 68-65. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-16. But Aishin Sea Horses won second period 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for the former international swingman Takatoshi Furukawa (190-87, agency: APAA Sports Group) who led his team to a victory with 24 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). American power forward Ryan Rossiter (204-89, college: Siena) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Furukawa is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Tochigi Brex's coach Thomas Wisman used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Makoto Hiejima (190-90) added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Aishin Sea Horses. Five Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. Tochigi Brex (30-10) have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. They maintain second place having just two points less than leader Hitachi SR. Aishin Sea Horses at the other side still keep top position with six games lost. Tochigi Brex are looking forward to face Dragonflies (#3) in Hiroshima in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Aishin Sea Horses will play at home against Hokkaido L. and are hoping to win this game.
