Second Stage Round 5: Kalisz - Mickiewicz 72-101

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Kalisz (6-7) was rolled over at home by seventh ranked Mickiewicz (6-7) 101-72. The game was mostly controlled by Mickiewicz. Kalisz was better in second period 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mickiewicz dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Kalisz's 26. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Guard Karol Leszczynski (190-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Power forward Dawid Kolakowski (207-93) contributed with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Mickiewicz players scored in double figures. Mickiewicz's coach Adam Kubaszczyk felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Lukasz Wojciechowski (184-88) answered with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and power forward Przemyslaw Galewski (199-91) added 17 points in the effort for Kalisz. Mickiewicz moved-up to fifth place in Group F, which they share with defeated Kalisz. Mickiewicz's next round opponent will be Nowa Sol (#8) on the road. Kalisz will play against the league's leader AZS AWF K-ce and hope to win that game.
