The most exciting game of round 23 in the Winner League took place in Jerusalem. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (16-7) to eleventh ranked Maccabi Ashdod (7-16) 77-74 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Hapoel Jerusalem. The guests trailed by 15 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 3 points. The best player for the winners was U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican forward Ivan Aska (200-90, college: Murray St., agency: Comsport) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. American swingman Donnell Taylor (198-82, college: UAB) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Maccabi Ashdod's coach Zvi Sherf used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) produced 18 points and American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Maccabi Ashdod maintains eleventh place with 7-16 record. Hapoel Jerusalem at the other side keeps the second position with seven games lost. Maccabi Ashdod are looking forward to face higher ranked Hapoel Holon (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hapoel Jerusalem will play against the league's leader Maccabi T-A and will have a slim chance for a victory.
