Regular Season Round 18: IF Air Europa - Almeria 69-49

Everything went according to plan when sixth ranked IF Air Europa (10-8) outplayed 11th ranked Almeria (3-15) in S'Arenal 69-49 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 69-49. IF Air Europa dominated on the defensive end, holding Almeria to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Almeria's 22. It was a good game for swingman Maria Espana (175-92) who led her team to a victory with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Lithuanian power forward Gintare Mazionyte (188-91, college: Texas) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American forward EeTisha Riddle (191-85, college: Missouri) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and guard Maria Hernandez (166-94) added 11 points in the effort for Almeria. Almeria's coach Francisco Rueda rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. IF Air Europa maintains sixth position in Group B with 10-8 record. Newly promoted Almeria dropped to the twelfth place with 15 games lost. IF Air Europa will face higher ranked Leganes (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Almeria will play against Segle XXI (#7) and hope to win that game.
