There was no surprise when 9th ranked Tuscany Pistoia (9-12) was defeated at home by second ranked Umana Venezia (17-5) 90-82 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 8 points. Umana Venezia made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) fired 25 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Julyan Stone (198-88, college: UTEP) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Five Umana Venezia players scored in double figures. The former international guard Daniele Cinciarini (194-83) produced 20 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and naturalized Argentinian point guard Ariel Filloy (189-87, agency: Interperformances) added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Umana Venezia have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-5 record having just one point less than leader EA7 Armani. Loser Tuscany Pistoia dropped to the tenth place with 12 games lost. Umana Venezia will face bottom-ranked Juvecaserta (#16) in Caserta in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Tuscany Pistoia will play on the road against Virtus Acea (#12) in Roma and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
