Regular Season Round 28: Amsterdam - Groningen 60-77

The game in Amsterdam was quite interesting. Third ranked Groningen (17-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Amsterdam (3-20). Groningen did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 77-60 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Amsterdam managed to win second period 23-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Groningen forced 20 Amsterdam turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Lance Jeter (190-88, college: Nebraska) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. American-Mexican Mark Sanchez (201-87, college: Boise St., agency: Court Side) contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Groningen players scored in double figures. Groningen's coach Ivica Skelin used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international swingman Dimeo Van Der Horst (195-91) replied with 11 points and 8 assists and international Julius van Sauers (200-95) added 9 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Amsterdam. Defending champion maintains third position with 17-6 record behind leader Leiden. Amsterdam lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 20 games lost. Groningen are looking forward to face Rotterdam (#5) at home in the next round. Amsterdam will play against Leeuwarden and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
