Regular Season Round 27: Palmeiras - Vivo/Franca 96-90 OT

Palmeiras (12-15) survived in overtime against Vivo/Franca (13-13) by six points 96-90 on Wednesday night. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-19. But Vivo/Franca won second period 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Vivo/Franca used huge pressure winning it 19-18 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 10-16. Palmeiras dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Vivo/Franca's 26 and made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Palmeiras looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Vivo/Franca helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Italian-Argentinian point guard Maximiliano Stanic (178-78, agency: Players Group) who scored 20 points, 8 assists and 5 steals (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). American power forward Steven Toyloy (203-87, college: Cincinnati) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Palmeiras' coach Regis Marrelli used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was international Leonardo Meindl (201-93) who recorded 25 points and Argentinian point guard Juan Pablo Figueroa (185-86, agency: Interperformances) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Palmeiras moved-up to ninth place. Vivo/Franca at the other side keeps the seventh position with 13 games lost. Palmeiras are looking forward to face league's leader Paschoalotto/Bauru at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vivo/Franca will play against Pinheiros (#8) in Sao Paolo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
