Regular Season Round 12: Sokhumi - Mgzavrebi 90-73
Date: March 21, 2015
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Sokhumi (#8) and Mgzavrebi (#7). Sokhumi (2-10) smashed visiting Mgzavrebi (2-10) by 17 points 90-73. The game without a history. Sokhumi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sokhumi made 7 blocks. The winners were led by the former international Beka Bekauri (207-91) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds and Liberian-American Pele Paelay (193-84, college: Co.Carolina) supported him with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Paelay is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 17 points and 5 assists by the former international Merab Bokolishvili (198-92) did not help to save the game for Mgzavrebi. American forward Adrick McKinney (203-90, college: TCU) added 9 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sokhumi moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Mgzavrebi. Sokhumi will meet at home higher ranked Batumi (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Mgzavrebi will play against the league's second-placed Kutaisi where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
