Very expected game when 10th ranked Oviedo (3-16) was crushed at home by third ranked Cortegada (14-5) 75-55 on Saturday. The game without a history. Cortegada led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Cortegada outrebounded Oviedo 40-28 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for guard Montserrat Gilabert (172-80) who led her team to a victory scoring 12 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Senegalese center Mame Sy (197-95) helped adding 13 points and 11 rebounds. Five Cortegada players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Eva Oliva (176-92) responded with 18 points and center Marina Vilella (185-92) scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Cortegada. They maintain third place in Group A with 14-5 record having just three points less than leader GDKO Bizkaia, which they share with Arxil Pontev. Loser Oviedo keeps the tenth position with 16 games lost. Cortegada will face Araski AES (#7) in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the next round. Oviedo will play on the road against Pabellon Ourense and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
