Very expected game in Thessaloniki where 14th ranked Panionios (3-18) was defeated by third ranked Aris (14-7) 67-63. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Panionios won third quarter 18-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aris forced 19 Panionios turnovers and outrebounded them 41-29 including 17 on the offensive glass. Cypriot-Bulgarian Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-95) nailed 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and American center Andrew Naymick (209-85, agency: Warren Sports International) accounted for 11 points and 11 rebounds. American guard Justin Tubbs (190-87, college: E.Tenn.St.) came up with 23 points and 5 rebounds and the former international point guard Vasilis Xanthopoulos (188-84, agency: Octagon Europe) added 9 points, 6 assists and 4 steals respectively for Panionios in the defeat. Panionios' coach Vangelis Alexandris let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Aris maintains third place with 14-7 record having six points less than leader Olympiacos, which they share with PAOK. Panionios lost their tenth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. Aris' next round opponent will be AEK Athens (#5) on the road. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panathinaikos.
