Regular Season Round 40: Mitsubishi DD - Toshiba BT 79-85

The game between Top Four teams took place in Nagoya. Their biggest opponent host Mitsubishi Dolphins (25-15) lost to third ranked Toshiba Thunders (29-11) 85-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mitsubishi Dolphins. Mitsubishi Dolphins were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Toshiba Thunders made 21-of-27 charity shots (77.8 percent) during the game. The winners were led by American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 45 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds and the former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) supported him with 17 points. Toshiba Thunders' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds by Senegalese-French forward Amath M'Baye (206-89, college: Oklahoma) did not help to save the game for Mitsubishi Dolphins. American forward Brendan Lane (206-90, college: Pepperdine) added 9 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Defending champion maintains third position with 29-11 record having seven points less than leader Hitachi SR. Mitsubishi Dolphins at the other side keep the second place with 15 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will play against Chiba Jets (#4) on the road in the next round. Mitsubishi Dolphins will play against Dragonflies and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
