Regular Season Round 40: Wakayama T. - Tsukuba R. 67-80

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Wakayama T. (5-36) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Tsukuba R. (4-38) 80-67 on Sunday. The game without a history. Tsukuba R. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Lamar Sanders (198-84, college: Lamar) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Duke Crews (203-88, college: Bowie St.) who added 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side American power forward Paul Butorac (208-83, college: E.Washington) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and the former international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) scored 17 points. Wakayama T.'s coach Eric Gardow tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Tsukuba R. maintains seventh position with 4-38 record. Loser Wakayama T. keeps the fifth place with 36 games lost. Tsukuba R. will face higher ranked Toyota Alvark (#5) in Tokyo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Wakayama T. will play at home against Kumamoto V. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
