Regular Season Round 23: Panteras - Guaiqueries 77-83

There was no surprise in Caracas where 9th ranked Panteras (3-15) were defeated by sixth ranked Guaiqueries (10-6) 83-77. It looked good early as Panteras took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Guaiqueries took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 6 points. 25 personal fouls committed by Panteras helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91) who led the winners and scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. American center Dwayne Jones (211-83, college: St.Joseph's) accounted for 12 points and 15 rebounds for the winning side. Five Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. American power forward Justin Williams (206-84, college: Wyoming) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and the former international swingman Jorge Rondon (193-90) added 22 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Panteras in the defeat. Panteras' coach Eduardo Opezzo rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Guaiqueries have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Panteras lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 15 games lost. Guaiqueries' next round opponent will be higher ranked Guaros (#3) in Barquisimeto and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
