Third-ranked Antwerp Giants (14-10) made lots of trouble for first ranked Oostende (22-3) on Friday. The visitors from Oostende managed to secure only three-point victory 97-94. However their fans expected easier game. The guests trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 53-44 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Oostende made 27-of-28 free shots (96.4 percent) during the game. Oostende had a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Oostende made 8 blocks. 26 personal fouls committed by Antwerp Giants helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Serbian guard Dusan Djordjevic (193-83, agency: Beo Basket) who scored 20 points and 8 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Polish swingman Mateusz Ponitka (197-93) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). American point guard Kyle Fogg (190-90, college: Arizona) produced 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import guard DeAndre Kane (193-89, college: Iowa St.) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Oostende and five Antwerp Giants players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains first place in League with 22-3 record. Antwerp Giants at the other side dropped to the fourth position with ten games lost. Oostende are looking forward to face Okapi Aalstar (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Antwerp Giants will play against Limburg United and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
