Second Stage Round 7: Polonia Bytom - Kalisz 75-69

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Kalisz (6-9) lost on the road to fourth ranked Polonia Bytom (9-6) 75-69 on Saturday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Polonia Bytom dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Kalisz's 30. They outrebounded Kalisz 38-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for Emil Podkowinski (194-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds. Point guard Marcin Ecka (184-78) contributed with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Polonia Bytom's coach Radoslaw Kucinski allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Lukasz Wojciechowski (184-88) answered with 19 points and 4 steals and swingman Jakub Kolodziej (186-86) added 19 points in the effort for Kalisz. Newly promoted Polonia Bytom maintains fourth place in Group F with 9-6 record. Kalisz lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Polonia Bytom will face Nowa Sol (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Kalisz will play against WKK Wroclaw and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
